biodegradable geomat
Regrow the seabed in a sustainable way
Numerous publications demonstrate how the hypersalinity of the water near the desalination plants causes the alteration of their pH, resulting in the death of underwater flora and fauna. The seabed is thus depleted of life and essential substances for the well-being of the ecosystem.
The purification activity of Posidonia Oceanica, an underwater seabed plant, has been identified as one of the possible solutions aimed at restoring this delicate natural habitat.
Coatyarn srl, a leading company in the production of high-performance yarns, in collaboration with ASA (Environmental Services Company), ISPRA (Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), Aquarium of Livorno, University of Pisa and University of Siena, has developed a biodegradable Geomat, a solution designed for the repopulation of Posidonia Oceanica: the biodegradable Geomat, in fact, thanks to the structure designed for a more stable planting and rooting of this plant, allows the Posidonia to anchor itself stably to the seabed and resist currents.
At the same time, the Geomat biodegrades naturally over time, becoming food for the fungi and bacteria present on the seabed and carrying out the double action of protection and nourishment.
The well-being of Posidonia Oceanica brings advantages on countless fronts, and the biodegradableGeomat is an essential contribution to its reproduction.
